John 1:43-51
The Call

Today marks the Second Sunday in Epiphany and we see the early ministry of Jesus in our Gospel story in John, chapter 1. Jesus comes upon Philip and simply says "Follow me" and he does! Can you imagine receiving that call from the Lord? Picture your life as a fisherman, low on the social class, probably struggling to feed his family, Then Jesus comes and calls and Philip follows. In fact, according to our passage for today, Philip goes and gets Nathaniel and invites him "to come and see the Messiah!"

How do you respond to God's call upon your heart? Were you aware there is a 18" difference between heart and head? Sometimes we hear God's call and “in our heads" we give excuses and go about our daily living. People in ministry of all kinds, in every congregation have heard the word of the Lord "follow me" and they do! Take the step, follow the Lord and you and I will see glorious things.

The road to follow the Lord will not be easy. Challenges and difficulties lie ahead. But it is God who calls and it is God who equips so even though Nathan doubted and had a few questions, Jesus told him (and tells us today) "You will see greater things than these!" C'mon friends, let's continue to follow the Lord and call others to follow with us by simply saying "Come and see!"
