Matthew 25:14-30
Using Our Talents

Today marks the last Sunday of the Pentecost season. Often called "the long green" season, or "Ordinary time," Pentecost has us remember the Spirit of God moving in with and thru us every day. We sometimes feel our intuition which I believe is the Spirit at work, when we know in our gut, that's God at work.

Today Jesus will again teach us through a parable (a story with a hidden meaning) of the Talents. We translate that today just as you might expect. Each of us has been gifted with "talents" that can be used for God in our everyday life. Not only personally, but in church as God calls and gifts. Using the Spirit image, our talents are those gifts and skills and passions that God has given us for use in God's kingdom. Each and everyone is included and part of our team, with different talents than the next person.

What are your talents? Passions for God's people? Many churches at this time of year do a "Time and Talents" survey where people fill out a survey where they "think" they have talents. I prefer the Spiritual Gift Inventory, and to see together where God has gifted us, where the Spirit is at work within us. We will discuss this further today in the sermon! YOU are on the team, you are part of this ministry, and YOUR gifts and talents and skills and passions are needed in God's work here in our congregation.
